Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town was writen by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, first sung on Eddie Cantor’s radio show in November 1934. Becoming an instant hit, orders were filed for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and over 400,000 copies were sold by Christmas.

Sometimes Comin’ is rendered as Coming in the title.

Notable recording include those of Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, The Carpenters, Cyndi Lauper with Frank Sinatra, Destiny’s Child, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Elaine Paige, The Jackson Five, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond and The Supremes.
